Pavers Amsterdame07
2nd June - 5th June 2007
Over 250 Miles in 4 days, from York to Amsterdam.......and back!!

Check out this amazing trip!   It was a 252-mile, 4-day journey to raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This was the 2nd time we'd made the trip to Amsterdam and set off at 9am on Saturday 2nd June.

After the extraordinary 2006 event when we managed to raise over £5700 and attracted a dozen corporate sponsors we were hoping to make the 2007 all-female event even better! The team of riders set their own massive fundraising target of £10,000 - enough to pay for 2.5 weeks worth of Marie Curie Nursing care in the North East Region! To date they've managed over £9000 with more money still coming in!!

Take a look at photo's from the trip.

    Find out about Marie Curie!
  • We set off on Saturday 2nd June from York and headed to Hull, some 60 miles away where our overnight ferry to Rotterdam awaited. Once there, we checked-in, found our rooms, had a quick shower and got changed ready to go to the entertainment lounge and make fools of ourselves on the dancefloor.

  • We woke up on Sunday morning to find ourselves in beautiful Holland, where cyclists are treated like gods and car drivers actually give way to you no matter what! We rode up through the countryside, stopped for a quick lunch and a paddle in the lake at Valkenberg and then headed onwards to Amsterdam where we stayed in a hostel in the city centre so that the more curious of the riders could explore!

  • Monday morning saw the start of one of the most scenic days of the entire trip as we headed back to Rotterdam through the centre of Holland. We were amazed at the Windmills and canals as we passed through small towns and large cities before arriving back at the Ferry in time for our return journey. Once again, we got to boogie the night away, then collapsed in a heap with a beer in one hand and a plastic windmill in the other before being gently rocked to sleep in our cabins!

  • Tuesday morning and we were back in the Uk with an easy ride back to York and the finish line! We laughed at the people who swore that we wouldn't be able to make it and beamed at the awaiting family members and friends! We made some amazing friends on this trip and some are already asking if they can take part in Amsterslam2008!!!

The route was mainly traffic free - we trundled through countryside, amazing views and some fabulous towns and cities in Holland. This ride is suitable for riders of all levels. We only rode at the speed of the slowest rider so no-one had anything to worry about!  We gave helping hands when required and as much encouragement as we thought was needed!
